Eduardo Verástegui is best known for his recent lead role in the movie Bella. The film took one of the top honors at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival and was well received by audiences and critics.
Verástegui has made a commitment to be involved only in films that have the ability to touch people’s hearts and films that elevate the dignity of Latinos in America and the world.
A model, singer and actor, Eduardo was born in the municipality of Tamaulipas (Mexico) to a family of farmers. After spending a great deal of his childhood in Xicotencatl, he studied for some time in the United States, in Oklahoma. He later finished his studies in Universidad Autnoma de Tamaulipas, where he began studying law but ultimately abandoned his law degree to study theater while he worked to pay his expenses.
He went to Mexico City at age 18 to pursue theater, and after doing some commercials and promotions, he became part of a musical group and ultimately a part of the pop band Kairo, with whom he toured the world. Following his musical successes, Eduardo went on to became a soap opera star in Mexico, starring in half a dozen telenovelas.He was later was cast in the film Chasing Papi, which brought him to Hollywood, helping him to get additional roles on television shows and in movies.
Then came his life-changing decision. “I made a promise that I will never use my talents again for anything that will offend God. I was born to know, to love, and to serve Jesus Christ, and that is my goal.”
Eduardo “realized that you have to be willing to die to yourself so Christ can reign in your heart and guide your life.”
In December, 2005, he established the non-profit organization “Manto de Guadalupe,” whose mission is to build houses in communities of extreme poverty and to assist underage pregnant Latina girls who otherwise would not have the resources to have and keep their babies.
