Immaculée Ilibagiza

“I started to say the rosary. The rosary became my savior.”

Immaculée Ilibagiza

Best-selling author Immaculée Ilibagiza is a living example of faith put into action. Her life was dramatically transformed during the 1994 Rwandan genocide when she spent 91 days in a cramped bathroom of a local pastor’s house. She credits her survival to prayer and to a set of rosary beads given to her by her devout Catholic father prior to going into hiding.

Immaculée Ilibagiza was born in Rwanda and studied electronic and mechanical engineering at the National University of Rwanda. Her life transformed dramatically in 1994 during the Rwanda genocide when she and seven other women huddled silently together in a cramped bathroom of a local pastor’s house for 91 days.

During this horrific ordeal, Immaculée lost most of her family, but she survived to share the story and her miraculous transition into forgiveness and a profound relationship with God. She knew hate, “I found out that everyone in my family had been murdered,” Ilibagiza said. Through faith and much prayer, Ilibagiza found peace and forgiveness. The Bible verse, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do,” rang in her head and helped open her heart. Speaking of Mary, Ilibagiza has said, “She had told us that everything you ask for, if you pray with your heart, it is for certain you will have it.”

“To me, Immaculée was not only left to tell this mind-blowing story, but more than that, she’s a living example of what we can all accomplish when we go within and choose to truly live in perfect harmony with our originating Spirit,” says internationally renowned author and speaker Dr. Wayne W. Dyer.

Best-selling author Dr. Christiane Northrup says, “Her story is one that confirms the existence of the power of a Divine Source. When I read her book, I came to understand and trust at a whole new level that true communion with God is possible for every one of us.”

Immaculée’s first book, Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust (Hay House) was released in March, 2006 and became a New York Times best seller. Today Immaculée is regarded as one of world’s leading speakers on peace, faith and forgiveness.
